2009 QMJHL DRAFT
May 27, 2009 :-: PEI Rocket
The Annual QMJHL Draft
The PEI Rocket are very busy with preparations for the annual QMJHL Draft that will be held in Moncton on Saturday, June 6. The trading period for the QMJHL does not open until the draft session, so there is no news at the present time as it relates to any player movement.
QMJHL teams hold their draft plans very private in preparation for the draft. Some teams have players rated much higher and some are much lower. A team's selection often comes down to a specific hole that needs to be filled, or it might depend on whether a team is building for the future. The Rocket currently hold the 7th overall pick and will be seeking a player that can step into a playing role with the team in the 2009-2010 season.
The Rocket scouting staff, led by Head Scout Charles Marier, have worked very hard to prepare for this year’s draft and look to build on the success from last year that saw the team draft players such as Ben Duffy, JP Mathieu, and Jordan Escott.
Training Camp Plans
Plans are well under way for training camp, which will begin on August 19th. This year’s training camp is probably going to be held in Pownal due to scheduling conflicts with the Charlottetown Civic Centre and various other Canada Games facilities. More info will follow in the near future.
Exhibition Schedule
This year, the Rocket will play 6 exhibition games, 3 at home and 3 on the road (against Halifax, Acadie-Bathurst, and Moncton) prior to starting the regular season on Friday, September 11th. The official exhibition and regular season schedule will be released in the near future and as soon as it is, we will let our fans know all of the details.

The early bird special pricing for season tickets will end on June 30th, so fans are reminded to get their tickets early for the 2009-2010 PEI Rocket Season. Busy Summer Ahead
With a limited number of staff in our organization, we have a very busy off-season planned.
We are currently in the process of setting up a new Customer Management Database system that will allow us to better serve our customers;
We have finalized the sponsorship offerings for the coming year and we are beginning the sales effort to get all of our sponsorship inventory sold for the season;
We are constantly attempting to sell more season tickets;
We are working on the possible development of a number of new initiatives such as a Street Hockey Festival, a breakaway challenge, a new Kid’s Club, a 7th Player Program, and much more;
We also plan to continue the work we started last year on events such as the Skills Competition, the Awards Banquet, and much more.
All in all, we are extremely excited about the plans for the coming year, as we continue towards our goal of becoming one of the best franchises in the QMJHL in all aspect of our operation.
We hope everyone is having a great off-season. We look forward to an exciting 2009-2010 season. Please help us in spreading the news about our season tickets and flex packs. We can use your assistance in helping us reach our goal of 2,500 season ticket holders for next year.
That's all for now...
