Antoine Bibeau made 37 saves in goal for the P.E.I. Rocket in a 5-2 win over the No. 1 ranked junior team in the country, the Halifax Mooseheads, Sunday afternoon at the Civic Centre.
With the win, the Rocket improves to 23-15-2-0 on the season and moves into eighth place overall in the standings.
"We all showed up and played hard as a team. We're happy," said Bibeau.
Rocket forward Jack Nevins said it was a great team effort and Bibeau was a rock between the pipes.
"We worked hard and did all the little things. (We) took care of the puck and just out-worked them."
The Rocket opened the scoring in the first period at 7:08 with Victor Provencher's 18th goal of the season. Ben Duffy and Ryan Graves assisted. Moments later at 9:33 on the power play, Josh Currie scored his 33rd of the season to give the Rocket a 2-0 lead. Louick Marcotte and Bibeau drew the assists.
In the second period, Nevins had the lone goal at 17:14 to give the Rocket a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes. Erik Robichaud and Marcotte assisted on the goal.
"It was just any other goal. I just shot the puck and it went in. I think it gave the boys a little jump after that," said Nevins.
In the third period, Ben Duffy's 26th of the season at 3:27 put the Rocket up 4-0 before Alex Micallef's short handed goal at 9:44 gave the Rocket a 5-0 lead.
The Mooseheads replied back with goals from Dominic Beauchemin and Stefan Fournier in the final 10 minutes of the game to make it 5-2.
Zachery Fucale made 24 saves in goal for the Mooseheads before being chased and replaced by Chris Clarke who allowed a goal on four shots.
The Rocket is back in action Thursday night when they host the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada at 7 PM.
