Rocket Training Camp Resumes

August 27, 2012

Update as we kick off week two of the PEI Rocket training camp...

The players hit the ice again today, after a one week break, to continue the 2012-2013 Rocket training camp.  When asked about this year’s training camp, coach Gordie Dwyer said “It’s great to be back on the ice this morning with all the players remaining in camp.  Starting phase two of camp, we’re putting our systems in place and building our team identity.  Some of the new players are continuing their push to be on the roster, while it’s great to see some of the returning players back in camp as well.”

This season, all of the players have reported to camp with the exception of Tomas Pavelka and Matej Beran who will be reporting from their Czech national tryouts on Sept 6th.  After the break, we had Yan-Pavel Laplante, Maxime Lagacé and Ben Duffy return to the ice for their first time.  When asking Duffy about his first day in camp this year, he said “It went well.  There are a lot of new faces and everyone is fitting into a team that looks strong so far.  As a leader on the team I want to surpass the points I had last year and help this team win every game we can.  We came off a rebuilding year, finishing low, but we have the ability to make the jump and surprise people this year by making the playoffs.”

So, with a few weeks of training camp and exhibition play left, we look forward to an exciting and promising season for the Rocket.

The next exhibition game, our 3rd of the pre-season, has the PEI Rocket visiting the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Friday, August 31st at 7:00pm.  Then be sure to come see the rematch versus the Titan at the Charlottetown Civic Centre on Saturday, September 8th at 7:00pm.

Also, a reminder to PEI Rocket Season Ticket holders that this is the last week to become eligible to win a “Montreal Canadiens Get-away Package”.  Any season ticket holder that refers a new season ticket holder will be eligible to win a trip for two to Montreal.  Trip includes round trip transportation on Via Rail (out of Moncton), 2 nights accommodations, 2 Montreal Canadiens tickets to a game of your choice (based on availability), and a Confederation Bridge pass.  Deadline for referrals is August 31.
