The P.E.I. Rocket took advantage of their second overall pick as they selected Alexis Pepin.

Pepin is a 6-2, 196-pound forward from Candiac, Que. and spent last season with College Charles-Lemoyne.

It was an awesome feeling to be drafted, said Pepin.

“I’ve been waiting for this since I was young.”

Pepin is a power forward and compared himself to Montreal Canadians forward Max Pacioretty.

“I finish my checks and I can score some goals and I can make some plays.”

Head Coach Gordie Dwyer said Pepin has a tremendous amount of skill.

“We’re excited to have a guy like that in our lineup. We feel he was the best player in the draft.”

Dwyer feels Pepin will have an immediate impact on the team.

“We expect him to be a contributing forward for us.”

It was exciting to have the second overall pick, said Dwyer.

“Whenever you pick that high in the draft and you’re sure of the guy you’re going to get and you’re excited about that player. It was a great feeling.”

The Rocket selected defenseman Mark Trickett with their 24th overall selection in round two and then selected defenseman Kevin Laliberte with the 33rd overall pick. In the fourth round, the Rocket selected forward Neil Robinson. The fifth round pick for the Rocket was Charles Lapointe.

The draft is still ongoing and can be followed live here.
